SEPTEMBER IS HEALTHY AGING MONTH, SOUNDS BORING BUT IT’S IMPORTANT!

Understand that aging begins once one is born, and the slate you came into the world with it already fixed in many ways. The good news is that usually one is in control mentally and physically to have good options to age healthy.

Dieting, of course, is a major consideration. If you laid out vertical-horizontal table listing all parts of the body and senses including the brain on the vertical access and the ideal foods/nutrition for each on the horizontal access, what would one see? The best foods and food groups are overwhelmingly similar for each physical and mental part of the body. The slogan: garbage in, garbage out comes to mind. Have you ever driven around Country and noticed the huge landfill dumps, well do not let your body or mind become a dump.

Staying physically active is equally important. In short, laziness weakens the mind and body. Exercise is a dynamic process that supports all facets of the mind and body. Do not become a couch potato but unbecome one if you should. Just like a motor vehicle that gets no maintenance, little or no use, and eventually runs poor or not at all. The professional athlete group that lives longer is the tennis players: simply imagine the physical moves they go through. Use your entire body and it is good for the brain.

The human brain “battery charge” is extremely important, that comes from your sleep. Also keeping it active when you are awake is necessary. Keep doing the same thing and nothing will change. Just like the rest of the body: use it or lose it.  “The Brain That Changes Itself” by Norman Doidge is a good read about neuroplasticity. Or imagine Stephen Hawking when reaching the point where he could only communicate using his cheek muscle. Start reading, writing, and doing difficult things that challenge the mind (and body).

Most health professionals list the do’s and dont’s for good aging, we have all read them. Throw is some real sunlight vitamin D, some fasting and a sweaty sauna. Beyond that, stay away as much as possible from noisy environments like airports and busy roads, and wherever and whatever humans have distorted in the natural environment: think high voltage EMFs, air and water pollution/temperatures.
