It was 1948, 9 years before the Mighty Mack opened. Still remember the Munising’s horn and the Crossing as the adventure began.

Some bumfuzzle events:
- You may not have heard of Kalamojakka but we ate it often every summer. Nothing like those native speckled trout, with home grown spuds, rutabaga, carrots and other important ingredients.
- A 1953 highlight was receiving Peerless No. 0500 level made in Walnut, IL, and USA made Stanley Handyman Phillips screwdriver, model 1722 for Christmas. Both still work great.
- Ahh, the Sputnik in October 1957 was viewed from about 47 degrees north latitude and 88 degrees west longitude at about 9 PM (?).
- First vehicle used mostly off-road driving was a Jukadi (or Jukuri). It was 1959 and chopped down Jukadi was a 1936 Ford flathead V8. Chopped meant only a frontend, a windshield and front seat!
- Hitch hiking home one winter night in1960 on a famous country road with a sibling we were picked by The Rhythm Rockers driving a neat Thunderbird. Was a real great lift home.
- Along the way there were chicken pox, mumps, strep-throat, measles, and fortunately no Polio. Cuts sometimes were disinfected with urine, and a few teeth were lost.
- Swimming in lakes and rivers was normal, as well as drinking their water. Ice skating and playing hockey on a real beaver dam worked fine. The two-hole privy functioned well. Being outside was normal. Poor Television came in 1959-60 and most did not have it. Party lines were in style.
